Parking lots (P+R, B+R)

Passenger cars (Park & Ride) Sopron, Szombathely

The number of our P&R parking lots is constantly increasing: besides the facilities at Sopron and Szombathely railway stations, we offer free parking at a number of stations along the railway line Szombathely–Szentgotthárd – currently more than 230 parking places for passenger car.

The use of the P&R facility in Sopron and Szombathely requires a parking ticket (CODE SLIP), which is issued at our ticket office on the day of travel and entitles you to free parking. 

As from 1 March 2024, the following terms and conditions apply for the use of the parking ticket:

The parking ticket is valid until 24:00 on the day the parking begins, if 

• it had been issued in addition to a valid domestic ticket with regional validity (season ticket, day ticket) or 
• it had been issued in addition to a full-price or reduced-price domestic ticket that is valid for a distance of at least 20 km;

The parking ticket is valid until 24:00 on the day following the start of parking, if

• it had been issued in addition to a full-price or reduced-price domestic ticket that is valid for a distance of at least 120 km.
   

For accompanying persons of groups traveling with a group ticket, as many parking tickets can be issued as there are accompanying persons entitled to free travel according to the tariff regulations in force.

Please note that a parking ticket cannot be issued for cards, passes and tickets issued against confirmation that entitle the holder to free travel, nor for passengers who only have a seat ticket (surcharge) (e.g. passengers over 65 years of age who travel free of charge).

Parking is permitted only for cars with a maximum length of 5.5 m and a weight of less than 3500 kg. A surcharge of 4,000 HUF/day will be charged for exceeding the validity period or unauthorized use.

Information on the use of the P&R facility

Parking tickets are issued by our ticket offices upon presentation of a valid railway ticket that meets the requirements (already handled tickets are also accepted) either before or after your trip. The CODE SLIP you receive contains the numeric code required to exit the parking lot.

Entry:

When an approaching vehicle is detected, the access barrier in Szombathely opens automatically if the occupancy indicator shows “free” (the system follows the current occupancy status; i.e., the occupancy indicator shows “full” and the barrier will not open if the parking lot is full). In Sopron, you must press the P+R button to drive in. The barrier will then open, provided the occupancy indicator shows available spaces. 

Exit:

To leave the parking lot, please scan the barcode at the exit terminal or enter the numerical code on the CODE SLIP to open the barrier.

After three consecutive incorrect data entries, the keypad will be deactivated and no new data can be entered for 30 seconds.

If the CODE SLIP is missing or the code has expired 

• if you can prove your entitlement with a proper railway ticket resp. season ticket, our cashier will issue you a new CODE SLIP valid until the end of the given day
• otherwise, you must pay a parking fee at the ticket office to get a CODE SLIP valid until the end of the given day
• the surcharge (4.000, - HUF/day) can be paid at the designated ticket offices.
